Issues Teens Face
Being a teen has never been easy, but it’s more difficult today than ever before. The challenges of broken homes, abuse, poverty and struggles at school leave many teens feeling hopeless with nowhere to turn. In an attempt to anesthetize the pain, teens often turn to behaviors that promise relief but often only create even more pain for themselves and sometimes others.
BULLYING Did you know that 83% of high school girls and 79% of boys are being bullied in school or online?
DEPRESSION & SUICIDE Did you know that suicide is the second leading cause of death among students ages of 10-24? At TreeHouse, 1 out of every 2 teens contemplated or attempted suicide before their first visit.
SELF HARM One in 12 teens hurt themselves deliberately; they create physical pain to distract themselves from their emotional pain. Did you know that girls are more likely to cut themselves and boys are more likely to burn themselves?
SEX AND DATING Did you know that 62% of teens report having sexual intercourse by 12th grade? For those who don't, more than 25% report engaging in oral sex.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE Did you know that 78% of teens have used alcohol and almost 43% have experimented with illegal drugs? The average age of first marijuana use is 14, while alcohol use can begin as early as 12.
If you are a parent of a teen, you know how difficult it can be to help them overcome these challenges. That’s why TreeHouse is here. We provide a safe place for teens to work through their struggles. As they learn about God’s unconditional love for them and build healthy relationships with caring adults and their peers, they find the inner strength they need to overcome their circumstances and make choices that will lead them into a hopeful future.
